Honoring the Arts and Strengthening Our Community

We are proud to share that our Lower School and Middle School students recently showcased their artwork at the High Museum of Art — a wonderful celebration of their creativity and talent. Thank you to the families who came out to support our young artists!

Thank you to the parents who attended Rachel's Challenge on February 26. We appreciate your partnership and engagement in this meaningful program focused on building connection, hope, and resilience among our students.

Attending The Howard School matters. Being here actually changes your child’s brain! Students who learn differently deserve schools that celebrate them and don't simply  “manage around” them. At Howard, we know the journey is not linear. It is not straight-forward. It is not simple. The Howard community cares for the physiology, emotions, and cognitive behaviors of each student.

Celebrating Rebecca Daws’ Retirement

After five years of dedicated service to The Howard School, Director of Enrollment Management Rebecca Daws will retire on March 5. Rebecca first joined The Howard School as a Lower School Speech-Language Pathologist and later served as Director of Enrollment Management, bringing care and a personal touch to the way we welcome new families. We are grateful for all she has done for our community.

Please join us in congratulating Rebecca on her retirement.

"Clarity and Composure that Would Make a Debate Team Captain Jealous"

That’s how the AJC described our Howard students following their powerful testimony at the McIntosh County Commission meeting last week. Traveling to Darien, GA, four students from Mr. Carl Parke’s "Sapelo Justice" class stood before the commission to advocate for the Gullah Geechee community of Hogg Hummock.

Highlights from the article:

  • Sophia H. challenged the board: “What do you really think is best for the island and for its people, not for profit, but the culture that is still important?”
  • The commission voted unanimously to extend a building moratorium until May 21st, protecting the island from immediate luxury development.
  • This project bridges our 8th-grade Georgia history trip to Sapolo Island with high school activism.

Community Clothing Drive

After our Day of Service in the fall, some Howard high school students wanted to keep making a difference. They now volunteer about once a month at Atlanta Mission, supporting daily operations alongside High School Lead Teacher Preston Drake and Middle School Assistant Teacher Marleigh Drake.

Students also learned that clothing donations drop sharply after the holidays, making the late winter and early spring especially tough for clothing essentials. You can help.

Donate gently worn or new clothing at the High School front desk now through March 31. Items of greatest need: coats, jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts, long sleeve shirts, and socks. All donations will go directly to Atlanta Mission.
