Truly Seen: The Heart of Howard School

I’ve batted about at least 4 different topics for this March letter… Spring means new beginnings; the stillness and beauty of the liminal spaces and time in between seasons; creating a strong finish for the year as we enter the home stretch…

There are so many directions I could have taken.

Then, this morning, I heard a colleague say “Howard is a school where students are not just watched.  At Howard, students are seen.” As a mom, that resonated deeply with me. I had moments when my children were in school that I worried they were watched but not known or understood. Worse still, I can remember some moments when I had the anguish and fear of thinking my child was being judged because the fullness of their story and struggle was not seen by the school.
